Where is the outrage?

Yesterday, a right wing pundit was shot and killed by an unknown assailant. The right is metaphorically foaming at the mouth in outrage over his death.

Yesterday, two school children in Colorado were shot by a classmate who then shot and killed himself. It barely made the news.

Why is there so much outrage about the right wing pundit being shot but not the schoolchildren? Is it because the right wing believes as the pundit did that a few gun deaths are worth it to protect the second amendment? Well, as long as it isn’t one of their own. Or is it because we are all just so inured to the death of school children by gunfire that it barely pricks our collective consciousness?

According to CNN, as of yesterday, there were 47 school shootings in the United States, about half on college campuses and half in K-12 schools. 77 students have been injured. 19 have died.

And the collective ire from the right for those 96 victims of gun violence is less than that for one right wing pundit

I am Charlie Kirk’s worst nightmare. I am single, childless, highly educated, successful, own my own home, and retired before I turned 60. I am everything he railed about against women. I’m also not a hypocrite. While I won’t celebrate it, I can’t fake angst over his death.

I do sympathize with his children who will now grow up fatherless. I doubt knowing that their father’s death was the cost of protecting the second amendment will help. I’d like to think that his death makes it a little less likely his daughter will face growing up in a future Gilead where she won’t have the right to be single, childless, highly educated, successful, own her own home, and retire before she turns 60, but I’m afraid there are far too many red-pillers waiting to step into her father’s shoes.

All of it is just a fucking waste. Charlie Kirk’s killing isn’t going to lessen the chance of another parent losing their child to gun violence while trying to learn long division. And I don’t know what will change it. I vote, I explain, I argue, but that is like spitting into the wind if the left wing politicians don’t start fighting back.

Thoughts and prayers.

For all of us.
